Motion Blur Test

Visual test to detect ghosting and motion blur on your gaming monitor.

Test Controls

1000 px/s

How to test

Follow the moving object with your eyes. If you see "shadows" or "trails" behind it, your monitor has significant ghosting or response time issues.

Motion Clarity 101

Ghosting happens when the pixels on your monitor can't change color fast enough to keep up with a moving object. This creates a blurry "ghost" trail.

Overdrive

Most gaming monitors have an 'Overdrive' or 'Response Time' setting in the OSD. Setting it too high can cause **Overshoot** (bright trails).

ELMB / DYAC

Strobe lighting technologies (Black Frame Insertion) can drastically improve motion clarity but may cause flickering or reduce brightness.

About Motion Blur Test

### The UFO Test for Clarity Motion Blur is the smearing of fast-moving objects on your screen. It is one of the biggest disadvantages in competitive gaming because it makes tracking enemies difficult. In a fast flick, a blurry monitor turns your opponent into an indistinct blob. Our Motion Blur Test (inspired by the famous "Blur Busters" UFO test) allows you to visually audit your monitor's pixel response time and clarity.

This tool is essential for setting up "Overdrive" or "MBR" (Motion Blur Reduction) features on your gaming monitor.

### How to Run the Diagnostics 1. **Select Speed**: Use the slider to adjust how fast the test object moves (measured in pixels per second). Faster speeds make blur more obvious. 2. **Track the Object**: Your eyes *must* follow the moving object across the screen. Do not stare at a fixed point. 3. **Observe the Trail**: Look at the trailing edge of the object. * **Ghosting**: A faint, blurry trail of the object's previous position. (Pixels are changing color too slowly). * **Coronas (Inverse Ghosting)**: A bright white or dark halo around the object. (Pixels are being pushed too hard by Overdrive). * **Clear**: The image looks sharp and identical to the static version.

### How to Fix Monitor Ghosting 1. **Adjust "Overdrive"**: Open your Monitor's OSD (On-Screen Display). Look for settings named "Response Time," "Overdrive," or "Trace Free." 2. **Test Levels**: Set it to "Low" and look at the test. Then "Medium." Then "High." 3. **Find the Sweet Spot**: "High" often causes Coronas (Inverse Ghosting). The best setting is usually "Medium" or "Normal," where there is minimal blur and no halos.

### Key Terminology * **GtG (Gray-to-Gray)**: How fast a pixel changes from one shade of gray to another. 1ms GtG is the target for esports. * **MPRT (Moving Picture Response Time)**: A more accurate measure of perceived motion blur. * **Backlight Strobing (ULMB/DyAc)**: Advanced tech that turns the backlight off between frames to kill blur. Use this tool to see if enabling DyAc improves your clarity (it usually does!).
